At the center of this explosion of psychoanalysis is Anna Freud, Sigmund Freud's daughter. At the center of mass-marketing and public relations is Edward Bernays, Freud's nephew. At the heart of these fields of social control is the idea that people's unconscious aggressive and sexual desires, not their rational thoughts, inform decision-making. Topics covered also include the CIA and MK Ultra, the manipulation of U.S. foreign policy through propaganda, and the creation of the 'focus group' by Ernest Dichter, the father of motivational research.
